A Bryte Idea has recently completed the Tourism Economy Dominance Index which determines the amount of dependence a county has in the tourism/hospitality business. Tourism is not a local cluster but a reverse export. Instead of sending products out of the jurisdiction to produce income, tourism brings people into the jurisdiction to support the local businesses. That income then turns and regenerates just like an export income would do. The TEDI (TED-eye) found at abryteidea.com/tedi compares a county's hospitality cluster and other tourism industries not found in the hospitality cluster to the US averages and indexes those scores to determine the county's dependence on tourism.
The principal of A Bryte Idea, Pam Caskie, has been involved in economic development for 40 years in her capacity as a chief administrative officer of 5 municipalities and organizations. She led the CEDS process at the Northwest Colorado Council of Governments, the Brownfields Revitalization project in Ambridge, PA, and most recently was the Development Director in Sevierville, TN, located in Sevier County, TN. Sevier County is the most dominate tourism county in the country, followed closely by Clark, NV and Taney, MO.
A Bryte Idea is working with the US Cluster Mapping project to integrate tourism and traditional industrial activity into an overall economic picture and to work with jurisdictions to create a clear pathway to economic success.
