We are headquartered in Pagosa Springs, in the San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado, a region of outstanding scenic and recreational lands, productive ranches and forest, immense watersheds, and prime wildlife habitat.
We work to preserve, protect and enhance valuable regional attributes including:

To be the leading voice for conservation of open space lands in the region, and to provide support to those who are willing to set aside future development of their land for conservation purposes. The main activities of the Alliance are to assist landowners in the development of conservations easements, and to function as the grantee organization for recorded easements.
The Southwest Land Alliance (SLA) was founded in Archuleta County, Colorado in 1981. Currently the SLA holds 35 conservation easements, protecting over 13,400 acres. The SLA is governed by a Board of Directors that meet monthly. The members of the SLA Board and staff live throughout the region and include local ranchers, business owners, and homeowners. The annual membership meetings are held in September.
